There’s Still Time To Order Your De-Icer
We get photos like this all the time—docks completely blocked in with ice. Ice can do more damage than you anticipate. Though we recommend getting your deicer before the winter sets in, the good news is that deicers can come to the rescue mid-winter too!
If your dock is covered in ice, an Air-O-Lator deicer can thaw the ice surrounding your dock within hours.
You’ll need:
- An auger
- Safety equipment
- Your deicer
- Patience
How To Thaw Out Your Dock Using Your Deicer
You’ll need to create a hole in the ice so that you can drop your deicer in the water and let it thaw out the water surrounding your dock.
- Make sure you’re safe. Find a place to saw through the ice in your pond in a safe way. If this is from the dock, make sure that you are in a spot that isn’t slippery. Once you’ve secured your location, get ready to saw through the ice, either with a manual, electric or gas saw.
- Choose where you want to create your hole. Keep in mind that often, if ice is thick, it can split and rupture docks or boats. Find a spot that you can easily access and where the ripple effect of sawing through ice won’t cause damage to your equipment.
- Depending on the mounting application, you may only need a 10-in diameter hole using our single chain mount option, or it may require an opening of 3 feet in diameter.
- Saw away! You’ll need a space that’s about 3 feet wide in diameter. You need it to be big enough for your deicer to fit.
- Once you have created a hole, secure your deicer to the sides of your dock or to stabilizing poles. Once it is secure, drop your deicer in the water. Turn it on and wait for the magic!
- Your deicer has a lot of work to do. Be patient, give it time, and within a few hours, you should have a clear pond.
How It Works
The Ice-Away lifts 500 gallons of water per minute upward to the surface, simultaneously drawing the warmer water from below. The uniquely designed motor mount/diffuser redirects the water flow outward, creating a larger area of coverage. The Ice-Away is capable of keeping an 8-foot diameter area of open water for every foot of propeller depth. The average suspended depth is approximately 5 feet up to a maximum of 8 feet.
With the optional float, the Ice-Away can be used in ponds or lakes to keep areas open for ducks, geese, and other waterfowl, as well as keeping an open area preventing winter fish kills.
