Description
Ice-Away 1/2HP De-Icer
The Ice-Away 1/2HP is the Highest Performing De-Icer on the Market!
Our Ice-Away utilizes a scientifically engineered high-speed propeller, capable of lifting 500 gallons of water per minute to the surface while drawing warmer water from below. The motor mount/diffuser design redirects the water flow outward, providing a larger coverage area compared to competing products. For every foot of propeller depth, the Ice-Away can maintain an 8-foot diameter area of open water. The typical suspended depth ranges from approximately 5 to a maximum of 8 feet.
To ensure reliable performance, the Air-O-Lator Ice-Away™ features a stainless steel submersible motor, which is water cooled and lubricated. Unlike many competitors who use oil-filled motors with seals and gaskets that can deteriorate over time, leading to oil leaks in your pond or lake, our motor has no such vulnerabilities.
With the optional float, the Ice-Away is suitable for ponds or lakes, keeping areas open for ducks, geese, and other waterfowl, as well as preventing winter fish kills by maintaining open water areas.

*We obtain performance specifications by analyzing empirical data under average conditions, ensuring that there is sufficient usable heat in the water.
Which De-Icer is Best For Your Pond?
You have two options for de-icers for your pond. One is the floating pond de-icer. It maintains a hole in the ice, allowing toxic gases to escape and keeping your fish healthy. The other option is the submersible de-icer, which heats a small part of the pond and sits about 10″ below the surface, ideal for hibernating fish. Depending on the severity of winter weather, the submersible de-icer may not guarantee a hole in the ice. Therefore, it is advisable to combine it with a pond aeration system.
Why Not a Pond Heater?
At Air-O-Lator, we often receive inquiries about the difference between a pond de icer and a pond heater. While pond heaters can be convenient, they essentially turn your pond into a hot tub. Pond heaters are mainly suitable for ponds containing tropical fish and can disrupt the seasonal cycle and immune system of non-tropical fish like koi, goldfish, and other pond fish. On the other hand, a pond de-icer doesn’t heat the water; it only melts the ice.
Making a Pond De icer Work For You and Your Fish
Whether you choose a pond aeration system, a de icer, or both, our pond products are designed to keep your pond and aquatic life healthy and happy. For floating pond de-icers, it is best to position them away from running water or deep areas. If you combine a pond aeration system with a submerged de-icer, place it near the surface to effectively melt the ice. And don’t forget to have a battery backup for your solar aerator, just in case!
