What is the difference between Weighted and non-weighted airlines?
Choose between a weighted or non-weighted option depending on where you’re using the airline. If you’re running an airline above ground, go for a non-weighted airline. However, if you’re running an airline from the shoreline to your Airstone or rubber membrane, you must choose a weighted airline to keep it under the water. In conclusion, investing in a weighted airline will save you the hassle of getting a non-weighted one to work underwater.
When running your airline from your aeration system to the water’s edge, make sure to bury it to protect it from accidents, landscaper equipment, or animal cuts. Taking precautions and burying it will prevent dealing with a damaged airline. Bury it 4-6 inches deep, and if you’re worried about extra vulnerability, encase it in PVC before burying it.
Weighted airlines are ideal for going into the water and deep in the pond, which is why they are weighted and will sink to the bottom. You can use this type of airline for all types of aerating systems and choose between 50, 100, or 500 feet in length. One of the benefits of a weighted airline is that it won’t tangle with fishing lines, boat motors, and other pond products.
